The Col Agnel is one of the three highest mountain passes in France with the Cime de la Bonette and the Col de l'Iseran higher. The Agnel climbs up to the border with Italy, with the Italian 3,800 metre peak of Mont Viso dominating the skyline in Italy. Le Pain de Sucre is the mountain that stands out when climbing from Chateau Queyras although there are views of the Ecrins peaks in the distance.
